In New Hampshire, county governments do not administer or maintain septic records. All onsite sewage disposal systems are regulated centrally under RSA 485-A:29-44 and Env-Wq 1000 by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) Subsurface Systems Bureau in Concord. Construction approvals, operational approvals, and subdivision plans are reviewed and archived directly at the state level by NHDES, with local administrative oversight coordinated through municipal Town Health Officers.
